Addicted to a snap press!

A friend let me borrow her snap press because I wanted to convert a cloth diaper from velcro to snaps. This Cutey baby diaper was just too big around the waist for my skinny little boy :( but it was so cute I just HAD to make it work!

So she sent over the snap press and a too much of a variety of different color snaps for a person as indecisive as myself....

OMG SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!

I basically looked at the buttons on this cool neon Go Green diaper and mimicked the buttons just on the top row. There was no need to put snaps on for the rise since it's toddler sized and fits my baby good that way. Tada...I'm so proud of myself and now I can actually use this diaper!!!

As you can see, his waist is super skinny! Now they fit perfect and there's  a lot of room in case he gains some chunk but I don't think that's gonna happen.

Well, then I started to think of all the things that I could put snaps on before I had to return the snap press...I need more ideas! I was on Pintrest all night looking for stuff. So far I put them on some kitchen towels because, believe it or not, this cute baby above is a monster when it comes to pulling off all the towels in the kitchen and throwing them around the living room. I don't know why he finds them so interesting. I think he actually enjoys my reaction more than the towels....anyway I love them on my kitchen towels!

Anyone have any other ideas? I may need to buy my own!!!! I'm addicted to the snap press :D

Up-cycle kids winter clothes into summer gear!

I've just posted this on my Utah Today's Mama blog but I wanted to share with all you Honey Bump fans.

I'm getting really tired of buying my son clothes. I'm not just talking about every once in a while...I'm talking about bi-weekly shopping. That's about how long a pair of jeans and shoes last him. I think he does ninja slides on the concrete at school. It never fails, he comes home with holes in the knees of his jeans and in the front of his shoes. Well, with the warmer weather upon us, I've been thinking that I wouldn't have to buy pants and shoes. Instead we would need shorts, tanks, and flip flops. Then I got the idea that I could just cut up some of his holey pants and long sleeve tops and make them into summer clothes! It worked great and I'm excited.
All you need to do is figure out the length of the sleeves that you want by holding them up to another short sleeve shirt and leave about an inch to sew up and cut off the excess. As for the pants, you pretty much have no choice but to cut at the knee if there are holes already. Keep in mind that if you are doing it to jeans, you may want to get a sewing needle that is specifically for denim since it's so thick it could break your other needles (yes happened to me a million times) Take a look at this new-to-him outfit :D

Toddler Nursing - A new experience that I LOVE

So, I'm nursing a toddler now. He'll be two next month and I'm happy about my decision. I forced my 1st child to wean at 12 months old and we suffered for 2 weeks because we weren't ready. I just wanted to go back to normal. Now I'm realizing more and more that "breastfeeding is normal".  Different babies wean at different times and it's wonderful to let them do it on their own. My son might need a little intervention because I think he has a date set to wean in 2020. But for now it's wonderful for the both of us, so why do so many people frown upon toddler nursing?  I always hear the same comment, mostly by ,I'll say more mature women (as in my mother's age but I'm not telling you how old she is, just know that she is young and beautiful ;) telling me that breastfeeding is great until they are old enough to ask for it, then it's time to stop. Can anyone answer me as to why that makes any sense AT ALL? Is it something that everyone says because they hear everyone else say it?

One of my wonderful customers plainley pointed out "So they're saying that a child with early speech development should be weaned earlier as opposed to a child with slower speech development or a speech delay?" Or do they mean the non-verbal cues to nurse means it's time to wean. Even newborns can tell you when they're hungry. When my son tugs on my shirt to nurse is it not the same as when he bangs his head on the pantry door because he knows where the cookies are? Or when he hangs on the refrigerator handles, isn't that a cue that he needs something? What's the big deal- oh wait, there isn't one.

My thoughts are this- If my child learns how to ask to nurse and I take it away, is that not teaching him something negative about communication. To me it says this, "Once you learn how to communicate your needs/wants to me, I will stop giving you what you need/want." And, yes I do believe that human milk is something that babies need. The milk itself is made specifically for our species but the act of breastfeeding is what creates that healthy emotional and sociological development. Brain food is what I call it, other's call it liquid gold. Potato, PoTatoe..... If the most critical stages of brain development occur during the first couple years of life, why not promote that healthy development with boobie fuel?

I respect every mothers decision to nurse or not. My goal is to help educate - so until I find evidence that toddler nursing is detrimental to my son's health other than "he can ask for it"....I give toddler nursing 4 thumbs up. 2 from me and 2 from the little boy that can nurse standing because we are both handsfree. :)

March Mommy of the Month- Meet Miriam!

We met Miriam when we first opened in 2010 and we've loved her ever since! Here's a little peek into the life of this lovely mommy of three.

HB: Tell us a little bit about yourself

Miriam: Well hi there!  My name is Miriam Karbasi and I’m 26 years old.  I’ve been married for seven years to my husband Hamid, and he is my best friend.

HB: How many children do you have?
Miriam: We have 3 beautiful little girls. Our first is Mya (7), then Shontee (3 ½), then came Kalindi (15 months) our little surprise.
HB: Where are you from?
Miriam: I was born in Mexico, but raised in California. You can pretty much say that Californian. After a few years my family moved to Utah when I was 9 years old. We then moved to Colorado when I was 14 and that’s where I went to high school at Fort Morgan. I then moved back to Utah at 17 and this is where I met my husband.
HB: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time ?(if you have any that is!)
Miriam: I could tell you so much about me, but first I want to say that my passion is my family.  Other than that; I love jogging, cooking, and reading.
HB: We understand that you had a Doula's support during your last delivery. Tell us a little bit about that experience.
Miriam: My experience of giving birth was hard, but at the same time it was a lot of joy.  Having my husband next to me every time I gave birth was a big help for me to focus on other things than the pain since two of my births where all natural.  Only my first child did I use an epidural.  During my last pregnancy I got to know this amazing woman whose name is Karen.  Karen was my doula, and to me it almost felt like I had a sister or best friend next to me.  Because of her, I was so relaxed that my labor only took a half hour!  If your pregnant and don’t have a lot of family around, a doula is the best way to go. It was a really good experience for me.

HB: Did you breastfeed?
Miriam: Yes, I did breastfeed all of my girls, and for me it was hard in the beginning but soon became smooth sailing.  The thing that I loved the most about breastfeeding is the connection that I have with each of my daughters.  Not only having to carry them around for 9 months is big, but breastfeeding them teaches you about your baby too in its own way.  I love being a mommy, but I must admit the job of a mom is harder than one might think; but it’s filled with all of these beautiful moments.
What a beautiful family! Thank you for letting us all into your life as a mommy :) We wish you all only the best!
